Instructions

Thank you for helping out with our research! Your involvement helps us to advance our understanding of reading comprehension. So before you start, please read the following instructuions carefully.

We would like to collect high level questions (e.g., questions marked by words like how and why) that occur to you as you read an article. So first, if you see some text in Context, please just read it as this appears before the sentences we ask you to annotate. Then, you will see the next chunk of the article sentence-by-sentence. For each sentence, we'd like to get at where in the sentence that you feel you'd like some elaboration or explanation, and what type of information you're seeking. For example, as you read the sentence

The executive Roland Arnall is well respected in the business world, and by some fair-lending advocates.

You might now wonder, why is Roland Arnall well-respected? In this case, the phrase well respected need to be elaborated!

So the above is our task: we ask you to read a part of an article one sentence at a time, and as you read each sentence:

1. Click "Add Highlight" and highlight the part that you think need elaboration or explanation.
2. Tell us what information you're seeking by asking a question about the part you just highlighted
3. "Add another highlight" if there are more parts of the sentence you want to ask about, or press "Next sentence". You can ask a maximum of 3 questions per sentence.

Some notes:

• If the sentence is completely clear to you, a "No Highlight" button will show up after 5 seconds. Use this button only when you're very sure.
• If you see a green bar showing to the left of the chunk, this means the interface is expecting you to highlight some text.
• Please, please, write complete questions! We would like to answer them in the end so we need to know what you're really asking for :)
• Once you move on to the next sentence, you will not be able to edit or delete highlights and questions you did before.
